The blast cost Cpl. Jimenez his left arm and peppered him with shrapnel. IED attacks are by far the biggest threat to US troops in Afghanistan- responsible for an estimated 80% of injuries and deaths in the southern area of the country are from IED's. The one that hit Cpl. Jimenez was set off with a command wire that stretched to a nearby field and was activated with a motorcycle battery.
