COP Babur was established in early August to expand the area that US forces control in the Arghandab district. The 1-320th Artillery Battalion, under the command of Lt. Col. David Flynn, has taken on a mission distinct from their training as big-gun slingers. They are waging counterinsurgency fight at the forefront of the US effort in the Taliban heartland of Kandahar Province, working to secure the dense and difficult Arghandab valley north of Kandahar City and rollback the momentum of the insurgency there.
